Here we comes to monthly culture class, this time we took our au pairs to Shenzhen Cantonese Opera Troupe and taste the charm of Cantonese Opera

Cantonese opera, also known as "Guangdong opera" or "grand opera", is one of the traditional operas in Guangdong.

Since Jiajing years of the Ming dynasty, it has appeared in Guangdong and Guangxi.

It is a performing art combining singing and playing, music by musicians, stage costumes and abstract forms.

Each profession of Cantonese opera has its own unique costumes and costumes.

Different from other provinces, Cantonese opera is unique in that it not only belongs to the category of Chinese freehand drama,

but also has a light and smooth, new and capricious personality, and enjoys the reputation of "red bean in the south".

This Culture Class we took the au pair to visit the performance by Shenzhen Cantonese Opera Troupe

In the afternoon of 21st of August the au pairs has already be the Phoenix theatre on the 3 floor of Kingkey Phoenix impression in Luohu district, they couldn't wait to see this Cantonese show.

And this time we are honor enough to backstage to visit how the actor and actress do the makeup.

The most usual makeup is “Red White Face”, apply a white foundation to your entire face, then apply red rouge around your eyes and cheekbones.

Actually make up color is given priority to with red, black, white, blue, yellow.
Red represents bloody loyalty and courage, black represents just geng loyalty and uprightness, white represents evil and insidious, blue represents swagger and ferocity, and yellow represents plagiary and agile.

On this occasion, the au pairs also put on costumes, although without makeup, but it is quite interesting to put it on. Let's take a look at the photos.

How's that, our au pairs look different with these costumes right?

Even the au pairs couldn't stop themselves from taking selfie with the actors.

After the costumes we have to catch the wonderful show, even though they couldn't understand Cantonese but everything is new for them.

No matter the make up of the actor or the fantastic costumes it leave a deep impression to the au pairs and we also hope by this Culture Class the au pairs could have some understanding to the cultural art and learn the magic of this orient art.
